The pictures are very accurate...BUT the one thing that's better then the pictures is when you walk through the door and the view the cozy Hope Cottage, home for the time you are there. It's proximity is perfect. We spent most of our time in Grand Case, diving (Octopus Diving). Having a car is a great idea, and allows you all the freedom and makes sure nothing is far or inconvenient to get to. We would venture out during the day and always want to be back to our place we called home for a week. Would not hesitate staying there again only we would make it even longer.
I arrived at Hope Cottage and the view was much more than you see on the website. It was stunning. I stayed there for ten days and I think it has some of the best views on the island. I needed a quiet get away but still wanted reasonable access to the rest of the island beaches and all that it had to offer. Hope Cottage had that and more.
Drink a cup of coffee on the deck and watch the sun come up over Dawn Beach. The breeze in the afternoon keeps the temperatures tropical.
I really felt like I was on top of the island. From the car you walk thru the lush garden to the cottage. On the beach side it totally opens up over Oyster Pond to the eastern Atlantic and the Caribbean. Its really an enchanting place and fits right in as a tropical hide away.
The cottage is so comfortable it was several days before I made it out to tour the island. It had everything you will need. If you like to cook pay a visit to a grocery store and bakery on the French side and you wont have to leave the house, or visit one of the many restaurants within a few minutes drive.
We had a wonderful stay at Hope Cottage. The listing description was accurate regarding the rentals appearance, amenities and location. The property was very clean and well maintained. We would and have recommended this property highly - we hope to return.
We loved the location overlooking Oyster Bay - and found it convenient to Orient Bay as well as Marigot and Grand Case. Oyster Bay itself had 4 restaurants we liked and a little grocery store to buy coffee and fresh croissants and muffins.
We would give it 5 stars!
We greatly enjoyed our vacation in St. Maarten and especially our experience at this villa. It provided some unforgettable memories.
Perched high atop one of the many dramatic hillsides, this property features beautiful, panoramic views of Oyster Bay and Dawn Beach. Walking through the garden entrance with flowers/plant life on both sides, you immediately get a sense of privacy and solitude.
The accommodations inside are nicely done - spacious master bedroom with en suite, adequate kitchen, comfortable living room, etc.
But clearly the star of the show is the outdoor space, as is appropriate for an island vacation. There is an expansive terrace and balcony area on one side, part shaded and part open, and a charming little pool on the other side. The best of the vacation was waking up to those views, taking a dip in the pool and relaxing outside all day long. The trade winds provide a nice balance to the sunshine and the views are spectacular. At the same time, there are plenty of nearby shops, restaurants and beaches that are just a quick drive from the villa.
We liked having the views, peace and quiet while still being close enough to the action when you want to venture out. It's a great combination that we would highly recommend!
While the photos are beautiful, the views and villa itself are even more beautiful and spacious, with great separation of spaces (living room and full bath at one end, kitchen in the middle and master bedroom and full bath at the other end), cathedral ceilings, surrounded by windows and French doors that offer up wonderful light and breathtaking views. The kitchen is so well equipped there is even a spring form pan!
The property is very secure. There is a gate at the road leading up to the villa with a 24/7 security guard, and then another gate operated by your remote control, then a locked gate to the entrance to the property, and all the doors have keyed locks and all the windows and doors have electrically controlled exterior rolling shutters from top to bottom.
The housekeeper is available every day but we really only asked her to come one day, and the pool/gardener comes 2/3 times during the week and keeps the grounds looking luscious.
Suggested restaurants, which we can recommend: Infinity at Oyster Bay Beach Resort (just down the hill when you want a good meal close by), Tropicana in Marigot, Bachus at Hope Estate between Orient Bay Beach and Grand Case (tres expensive but tops), L'Oasis in Oyster Pond, and one we discovered, Palm Beach at Orient Beach.
The villa is impeccably clean and well maintained. The pool is beautiful. It is always delightfully cool there, with ceiling fans in every room.
Now for the road in/out. The road is rough and VERY steep and has a couple of quick double hair pin turns that had us cringing at first but then laughing our way up and down. We never felt comfortable enough to navigate the road at night (we're both 71, not frail and quite adventurous otherwise) but that just meant big lunches out and cozy dinners in which we loved cooking in that fabulous kitchen, looking down on the twinkling lights of Oyster Bay.
What a fabulous week.Would we recommend this villa to friends and relatives? You bet! Would we go back? We're already figuring out when.
Our stay at Hope Cottage far exceeded expectations! The house has all the amenities you could ask for including a full kitchen, outdoor gas grill, swimming pool, outdoor and indoor eating areas and cable. The property has incredible views and is close to beautiful beaches (Dawn beach, at the bottom of the hill, was our daily spot).
The highlight of our trip was going on a snorkeling trip with Captain Alan's Snorkeling Adventure which was conveniently located a short 5 minute drive from the house.
We cannot wait to go back to Hope Cottage!
